SCRAN
Written by Holmeside Coffee on Thursday 5th May 2016

We're delighted to tell you that our food menu is now in full flow at hc. Since we opened back in 2013 we've stuck strictly to coffee and hot drinks but with a new year comes a new us! Specialising in sourdough toasties we're sure there's loads to love, whether you fancy a light bite for your morning commute or a sit down lunch. Our guest coffee menu is going from strength to strength with some fantastic coffees from a number of different UK roasters. Call in to see all our super changes.

The Gathering - September
Written by Holmeside Coffee on Wednesday 2nd September 2015

Our monthly music night is going from strength to strength. Focusing on the music and setting an atmosphere often heard about in 'the good old days,' The Gathering is cementing itself as both a unique and special type of gig.  At the heart of the night is a sole focus on the performer. We ask our audience to remain polite and attentive.

Shantaram Book Review / Overview - Karen Jones

Shantaram – Parts 1 & 2. The Story So Far

From the start of the book when Lin arrives in Bombay I was captivated. The book is beautifully written – it captures the essence of India and its people so well. Throughout the book Lin doesn’t judge whether actions are right or wrong, he just states the events and allows you to decide whether you agree morally, or not.

OCC Rugabo
Written by Holmeside Coffee on Thursday 16th October 2014

The Hunda-Oli has gone, finished, it's over (for this year anyway). But fear not! Burundi Rugabo, a fine single origin coffee is here and man does it taste good. It's early days with this one as we tinker with weights and measures, brewing styles and grind settings, but this coffee is already tasting fantastic. Pop in to the shop, grab a cup and chill out with this beautiful African bean.

We first got this coffee from the Ouseburn Coffee Company a few months back and loved it. Hearing that supplies are low, we put it back on the menu in more varieties than ever. Check out some of the recipies we recommend for this fantastic fruity brew.

Aeropress

Grind coarse (coarser than usual aeropress grind). Water approx. 90 degrees.

Autumnal Wall Mural

The hugely talented Darryl Ibbetson has been busy in shop over the last couple of days doing an autumnal wall mural for us. The equally as brilliant Andy Martin kindly agreed to time lapse it all.

Wear Velo Cycling Jersey
Written by Holmeside Coffee on Tuesday 26th August 2014

Our friends over at Wear Velo launched their team kit a couple of weeks back and we're delighted to be stocking some in our shop. These Castelli Cycling Jerseys and Walz Caps are top quality and super stylish. More a 'bike gang' than a cycling club, you'll see them dotted around the north east flying the wearside flag.

Jerseys: M & XL. Caps: S/M & L/XL. Available in store to try on. Stock is extremely limited and these are a one off kit run at the moment.

North East Rising - Independent
Written by Holmeside Coffee on Tuesday 26th August 2014

Rowan McCabe & Arts Centre Washington present 'North East Rising', an energetic one man show of performance poetry, theatre and stand-up. Expect hallucinatory tales, laugh-out-loud satires and a few pauses for thought as Rowan meets a load of eccentric characters, writes a gangster rap about stotties and goes on a journey that shakes apart Northern stereotypes.

Rowan seeks to challenge the medias portreyal of our region. Fed up of hearing about closed down mines and drunken television programs, he's on a mission to find the true heart of the region's culture.
